Squid Proxy server trouble: newsgroups & email OK, but no browsing

I have a Linux Squid proxy with Jays firewall to handle email,
newsgroups and browsing for Windows machines. Today the browsing
suddenly stopped, with both IE and Firefox. So, I decided to reboot
the Linux machine and load Squid. Still no surf. After three times
restarting Squid, now everything works. Any ideas what happened?
What logs should I study? TIA
