I concur.
I set up one of my linux boxes as an intermediate email server. I use
fetchmail to retrieve email from multiple POP3 accounts. All email is
processed through procmail, spamassassin and ClamAV.
Not a single virus has passed through these trusty software jaws since I
set this up. Spamassassin is about 99% effective. Out of more than 1000
spam per day, at most 1 will get through. ClamAV is quite good at
catching phish, trojans, as well as the usual virii and malware.
