Greetings,
I just posted this to FedoraForum.org, but I thought there might be some
users in this group with different opinions.
I've recently set up FC3 on my new Dell Inspiron 8600, and I'm still
relatively new to Fedora. A friend who has a little more experience with
it has suggested that I should stay away from using Up2Date. His
argument is that:
"It's configured to go directly to redhat support which is a pay
subscription. In the past you could register one machine and get
downloads and updates. That is no longer the case and what they offer
instead, yum, is slow, buggy and does mysterious behind the scenes
Microsoft sort of stuff."
Indeed, when I ran yum check-update it hung for about an hour, and I
finally just gave up and rebooted, which I realize was not the wisest
thing to do, but it didn't seem like I was getting anywhere.
Anyway, my friend's other advice was to use apt-get and synaptic.
Comments/suggestions?
