Staroffice 5.2 and Fedora Core 2

Does anyone know why Staroffice 5.2 doesn't work with the 2.6.7+ kernels
and does work with the 2.6.6 ones in Fedora Core 2?

Also, is there any way to get S.O. 5.2 to recognize the JDK 1.1.8 in FC 2?
I have exported the JAVA_HOME and LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variables in
the soffice script, but S.O. still doesn't see the jre. Also I have tried
to modify the socerc file as you can with S.O. 5.1a and it also doesn't
work.

Please don't suggest that I use OpenOffice like a good little boy.
