Linux is a technical success. It has decent security, good networking
tools and a decent GUI interfaces.

What it doesn't have is fun! I recommend more books along the lines of
Linux Toys. Most of the books published for Linux tells the user how to
    do all of the basics:

How to install it, how to start the GUI, how to get on the internet and
how to set up a network. But after you have these concepts down, its time
to move on to something more interesting. The chapter in Linux Toys on
how to set up a personal weather station was great (the rest of the book
really only discusses what already exists in other books.)
