I'm almost totally new to Linux, but have used Windows for years.
I have installed Fedora core 3, and followed the instructions at
http://fedoranews.org/contributors/stanton_finley/fc3_note/#Apt to
install Synaptic. This seemed to work and I used Synaptic to install
Acrobat and a couple of games.
That was yesterday. Today Synaptic and the games do not work - all
worked OK yesterday. I've no idea why - nothing happens at all except
that Synaptic sometimes asks for the root password and sometimes does
nothing at all. No error messages, nothing. Acrobat still works though
(it looks crap and I've no idea how to integrate it with a web browser
or set it up as the default pdf reader, but I'll leave that for another
time).
I've done the things I'd do if this was windows - ie reboot and try
reinstalling. Rebooting makes no difference. Reinstalling using "yum"
just gives a message "nothing to do".
I'm afraid this sort of thing is the reason why Windows users will never
switch to Linux. I'd have liked to get it to work, but to be honest it
all seems much too much effort to do something that would be really easy
in Windows. However, if someone can point me in the right direction to
sort this out I'll give Linux one last chance.
Thanks
