Hi,
Noob user here running FC3. I get broadband internet through a cable
modem attached to my NIC. I had a problem that was driving me nuts that
I think I have sorted out, but I'm not sure if my solution is optimal.
What would happen is that I would be using the Internet, just steaming
right along, and then I would click a link and it would just freeze. The
browser would sit there displaying "Resolving host..." and then time
out. This would occur at odd intervals for no apparent reason.
I eventually traced it to a network setting for DDR. It was under
the "Advanced" tab for "Demand Setting". The check box for "Dial on
Demand" was set with an inactivity time-out of 100 seconds. So what
would happen is if I spent more than 100 seconds actually reading a
web-page the connection would time-out and disconnect from my end. Then
it would have to reconnect and log back into the system before I could
go anywhere.
Now my first thought was to just set the time-out to something
really high -- like the maximum of 1000 seconds. But on second thought I
just unchecked the "Dial on Demand" box. This seems to be working (in
conjunction with the "Restart if connection dies" box).
My question: Is this the right way to fix this sort of thing?
