It's an IDE CD-ROM.

There is on onboard SCSI controller on the system but no devices are
currently plugged into it.

I'm able to boot to the CD-ROM using my current CD-DRIVE, and the setup
runs. I I get the error when I select "CD-ROM" at the prompt that asks
if the installation files are located on CD-ROM, NFS, FTP, etc. The
disk works fine in other computers, it just doesn't work on this
system. I've checked the MD5SUM and the iso image looks fine. I've
burned the image to different CD's but that doesn't help either.

It's a samsung CD-ROM drive, in a system with a ASUSP2B-DS motherboard.

I'm trying to install CORE3.

I have several systems with the same hardware and they all generate the
error at the same place.

Is it possible there is a problem with the DMA on the IDE bus? I've
looked through the bios settings to see whether it was posssible to get
past the error my changing or disabling some features but haven't
really come up with anything. The install appears to see the physical
drives in the system. If I chose install from "HD" at that prompt it
sees the two IDE drives installed in the system.
