    I restarted the x server, but that wasn't a solution for me. I've got the
    console mouse running, and the behavior seems to affect my x display
    (mostly) when I return from f1-4.

    I've seen the behavior for at least since RH6. I've seen the same behavior
    in other distros too: Caldera; Mandrake; SuSe. Add to that fact that we're
    not using the old XFree86 anymore, rather XOrg in Fedora 3, and yet the
    behavior persists.

    Sounds like a hold-over bug from the early days of the display mouse
    driver. No?
