print server and dot printer

Hi.
I am trying to set up a print server with a dot printer.
trying with different print servers and different printers i have the same
problem, the printer stop printing and i have to reset the print server for
to resume.
That is similar to the "old unix system" printing to the serial printer.
Seem to be a handshake problem.
I have tryied different RedHat version, from 8.0 to fc4.
Of course no problem using a laser printer.
Shall i give up ?
