Help - Permissions & groups

HI!
Working on a Linux RedHat project and need help.

I've set-up some users and created groups to which I've made those users
members. I've also created directories. I have to set permissions for some
of the groups to access some of the directories I've created. Can't seem
to figure out how. Microsoft is old news to me but Linux is all new to me!
I don't seem to understand how to link groups to directories to assign
permissions... By the way I have to do all this the real way: at the
command promp NOT the GUI!

If any one can help...would be appreciated. (using RedHat version 8.0)
