Freecom Classic external HDD 250 GB usb2; dc powered PROBLEM!

Hi all!
Please advise how to solve a problem with this HDD:
i plugged in to my Fujitsu-Siemens laptop Amilo D 7830(2.8 Celeron) and
when i restarting pc it freezes at bios startup screen and Xp does not
starts. It is my second one HDD of Freecom
,another died out after 2 months of battles with the same problem!
It works and found by pc only when connected to already started system.
Who can help me,please respond.
(i have tested another external hdd of IOMEGA and found no problems).
