I have been running FC4 on an HP LH4R and an LPr for many months with no
problem. I had yum auto updates enabled. The boxes had not been rebooted
in some time (I'm guessing 3-4 weeks). Went to reboot and they both keep
rebooting when starting to load the kernel (latest SMP). I get the splash
screen and a display of the init ramdisk to be loaded and the the boxes
reboot. Since this happened on two older HP boxes I do not suspect
hardware failure. I reinstalled FC4 and they work fine now. Both are
using the internal NetRaid controllers. Anyone else seen this or have any
ideas? TIA Richard
You can switch kernels in grub, you don't have to reinstall FC4 just to
get back to the old kernel. It's a good idea to edit the /etc/grub.conf
file and remove the hiddenmenu line so that you can see the available
kernels when the system boots. You also might want to change the timeout
from 5 seconds to 10 which will give you more time to react. Finally you
should set the default kernel to a know working one.
