I haven't found any way of verifying a checksum in Windows XP yet.
You can get sha1sum that will run on Windows, see this

I have downloaded sha1sum.exe from this site. What is it meant to do?
When I try to run it, I see a window open and close, too fast to read.
It's ok. I tried running it from the command prompt and it worked.
The checksum doesn't match.
