My keyboard and mouse appear to become disconnected from the computer.
When it happens the caps lock led and another led start blinking and so

That doesn't just sound like a mouse and keyboard problem; it sounds
like the whole system is locking up, unless you actually see some sign
on the screen of some continuing activity when it happens.

[...]The only think I am seeing in my log file which is strange is this
repeated over and over again, but I don't know that this has anything
to do with the keyboard and mouse.

Is there a disk in drive hdc, and if so does leaving the disk out seem
to solve the problem of the system becoming unresponsive? Those
messages look like the sort of thing you might see if you had a
corrupted CD or DVD, or some drive problem that made it seem like you
had a corrupted CD or DVD.

Yes there was a DVD in the hdc and taking it out fixed the error
message. I have since gone back and looked in the logs and see where
there is an increased frequency since this hdc error was first
reported. But the problem occurred last week also and there weren't
any error messages regarding hdc.
The system isn't completely locking up, because I can ssh in from
another system and restart gdm and I can't tell when the problem starts
because the message log appears to be fairly continuos up until the
time I reboot or restart gdm.
