I'm trying to install VMPlayer in Fedora Core 6.
Its setup needs the path to my kernel headers...and I can't find them.
Doing some searching, I found in most distros they're generally located
/usr/src/linux-(kernel number).
My /usr/src has the subdir's "kernels" and "redhat".
I did a search for dir's with my kernel version and all I found was:
/usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-1.2849.fc6-i586 and
/lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2849.fc6
but...while they have a lot of subdir's and files, I don't see anything
in there that tells me either of these are the location of the headers.
I did a "yum search kernel-header" and found they are indeed installed.
Not sure what to do at this point. I'd appreciate any feedback!
Thanks,
Liam
You should review the release notes, section 8.5 Following Generic Textbooks
(linked below;
http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/release-notes/fc6/en_US/sn-Kernel.html#id2967516
From section 8.6:"Fedora Core 6 does not include the kernel-source package provided by
older versions since only the kernel-devel package is required now to
build external modules."
That is, same as FC5.
