all-generic-ide during install of fedora 5 i386 - no dvd/cod driver after install

Does anyone know how to install a generic driver manually?

During the installation of Fedora 5, the installer software didn't
recognize my DVD and asked to install a driver ( and none available ).
I found that using the all-generic-ide option during the install would
allow the installation to proceed. You would think it would also
install the generic driver it used to install fedora 5.

Any sugguestions?
