Re: New to FC

I am currently running FC4. My very basic question is this:
1. When you download a application, where is the "right" folder to
download it to?
2. When installing new applications, where is the "right" folder to install
them to?

There are no folders in Unix type operating systems,
the are called directories.

You should be installing using the GUI or the "yum" command.
You won't get to choose a directory, the programs are
precompiled and only install where they should.

Normally you see binaries in /usr/bin, config files in /etc,
libraries in /usr/lib.
