Corrupted /etc/fstab

I have (had) Fedora Core 6 running with no problems. While adding a USB
HD I corrupted /etc/fstab. Now, when I boot I get dropped to a shell so
I can "repair the filesystem". However, I can't edit fstab to delete
the corrupted line as the shell reports the filesystem to be read-only.

Can anybody tell me how to mount/remount the filesystem so I can write
to /etc/fstab and/or get to a shell any other way?

Thanks all,
Glen
.
