I'm using Fedora 7 and I'm looking for a simple and easy to use musicAudacity.
editor. I just need to record sound from the computer's soundcard and
export the recorded sound to an MP3.
Yes, I tried it. However, the recordings are distorted and it doesn't
export to the MP3 format.
On the features web pagehttp://audacity.sourceforge.net/about/features
It is writen:
Export MP3s with the optional LAME encoder library!
Did you install that library?
Jean
I did the install of Audacity through Yum. There was no dependency to
the LAME encoder libraries noted. I don't think I have the libraries
install so I'll check again from Yum to install the LAME encoder
libraries.
I installed all the LAME support libraries but the after exporting the
recorded sound to an MP3 file, the sound is still distorted and low.
I'm using the default settings within audacity so I can't image what
the problem could be. Please help.
Use a mixer to adjust the record volume.
You need to experiment with the exact control to use.
After you get the volume right, the distortion may cure itself.
If not, post again.- Hide quoted text -

These are the preference settings:
playback device = /dev/dsp1
record device = ALSA * (hw:0,0)
channels = 2 (stereo)
sample rate = 44100
sample rate format = 16bit
real-time rate converter = medium
high quality rate converter = medium
Test:
I'm using XMMS to playback an MP3. I click "start monitoring". I click
the record button. After 30 seconds or so I click stop. I click the
playback button on Audacity, but no sound (?). I export to MP3 to
playback in XMMS. It plays back but it sounds like the music is
playing within a tunnel and playback speed is slow. Something is
happening to the playback timing when exported to MP3.- Hide quoted text -
Another update. I changed my sound perferences and made ALSA the
default playback device. Now when I go into Audacity the playback
device = ALSA * (hw:0,0). I'm able to hear what I recorded now.
Does it sound OK?
However, I still have the playback speed problem. If I can get that
resolved I think I will be good to go. Any ideas about this speed
thing?
When you export as WAV and then play with aplay
does it sound OK?
Under EDIT, PREFERENCES, FILE FORMATS
Look at your MP3 export settings.
Mine is 128 although I usually save as wav and
convert to FLAC.
Gee, just tried to export as MP3 and all I got was a
core file.
Try WAV, see if OK.
Then try using lame to make the MP3 from the WAV.
See if OK.
