not what it wants?. Any ideas Many Thanks
I tried Google but drew a Blank

The root password is for the root account. The username and password are
for your working account.
Hi
Yes I understand that, The trouble is, it is asking for a username and
password that I have not seen before, guess their must be a default one
, can't find anything in the manual either, you can't just
hit <return> either ,
Oh well back to XP I guess :=(

Per a previous post that you ignored or misconstrued: "The root password
is for the root account. The username and password are for your working
account."
The system wants you to choose a user name and password for YOURSELF.
Do so and keep on truckin'.
Well, after reflection, MSXP, MSDOS, or whatever, might be a better bet
for you.
Maybe MSDOS, but I'm pretty sure by the time you get to XP it asks
the same questions during the install.
I was never asked to create a password during the instal, apart from
the root one that is.
I have been involved with PC's since Dos 6.22 right up to XP
If it doesn't ask you to create a user account it should.
I can't say with certainty that I've installed XP but I've
done W2K Professional quite a few times and I believe it asks
for a user account or at least gives you the opportunity to create one.
The Fedora 8 install may reject overly simple passwords and usernames
with spaces, etc.
