I was never asked to create a password during the instal, apart from
the root one that is.
Then you've somehow gotten an installation that operates differently
from thousands of other people. I recently installed F8 and it DID
ask me to create a username and password for my main account.
I made the switch to linux (Fedora Core 4 initially, now I'm on FC6 and
my wife if F8) about 2 years ago now and I never, ever want to go back
to any operating system from Microsoft. My experience and impression has
been that I've "been given my computer back" and provided with an
immensely powerful toolset.
If you bear with it and get through the learning curve, and I won't
bull*** you that it's not steep, you'll love it.
