Hello Group;
I hope this forum is a good place to ask. I installed CentOS 4.4 server
without a GUI on a pc. I now want to take the drive and put it in a
different pc and make it a GUI desktop. How do I install a GUI desktop
off the Internet using yum or up2date? All I seem to be able to do is
upgrade the system, which I did to 4.5. My xorg.conf file is listing
the wrong hardware; kudzu will not find any new hardware.
Help with some direction please.
Thanks
doug
Install yumex,
yum -y install yumex
Then ssh in from another system that has X running on it at start yumex.
Yumex will allow you to install everything you need. If 4.5 has pirut you
could use that also.
General;
I've seen you out here a long time. Thanks for the reply. I've been
playing with Linux since slackware in 1997, but seem stymied.
I'll try this method ... soon. I'd have to use another CentOS server to ssh
in to use Yumex, and all I have are black screen non-GUI machines. I don't
think I can accomplish what you want me to do, unless of course I can use a
Windows XP machine and putty or pscp in dos mode.
