Hello group. It's been many years since I was a RedHat user (6.0) and so--------------------------------------------snip-----------------------
P.S. #2 Sorry for the long post.
The short answer is that I yanked a few parts out of the Dell® box and put
them into another recycled 'white box' pc and all is good. Fedora 10 is
now installed and running well !
I'm not certain but it seems that the Dell® box had problems with IRQ's
and/or the on-board Intel® video chipset also has issues... The Dell®
refused to let me set the hard drive jumper to either 'master' or 'slave'
and would only see the hard drive if I left the jumper off ! Pretty
unusual behavior. So I decided to use the hard drive on a similar computer
that was only lacking a hard drive. Setting the jumper for this box worked
as expected and the install went smoothly.
Anyway, now that I've got Fedora® installed I can proceed with setting up my
enterprise software and take it for a spin. I'll report back with my
results in a few weeks and let ya' know how my return to 'Red Hat' goes.
