Fedora 16 console terminal behavior

Noobie question about console terminal behavior in Fedora 16: I click on the icon, the window opens at 80x43, or thereabouts, then it shrinks, on screen, to something that is small and pretty much unusable. I've looked in System Settings->Window Behavior->Window Behavior and nothing I've tried will stop the undesired action. All replies are appreciated!
