hi all,

I use Suse 8.2 on my laptop and frequently connect/disconnect from my
network.
If I unplug my network cable and boot, the system tries to look up for
IP address and it pauses for about 15 secs and then moves on with
"no IP address yet... backgrounding.."
waiting for 15 secs when the cable isn't plugged in is annoying.

is there neway that I can change this timeout to 3 seconds or
something.

I tried setting the "WAIT_FOR_INTERFACES" variable to 3secs, but it
doesn't work. doesn't it detect that cable isn't plugged in? (like XP
does).

Any suggestions to decrease the boot time are welcome.
how much difference does it make in the boot time if i disable splash
screen?

thanks in advance.
