Hello good people of alt.os.linux.suse...so I moved to a new place, got a
cable modem and went out and bought a wireless router. I got the LinkSys
BEFW11S4 802.11b. I only tried it with two computers at first, one wired
and one (laptop) wireless. Well, it worked, except that after playing
around and finally getting around to using the modem for a good purpose
-downloading large files - I noticed that the modem would stall out at an
arbitrary time - anywhere from 5 to 25 minutes into the download. I know
it's the router because (a) I googled it and found some other people
talking about the same problem with their BEFw11S4, (b) the problem exists
on both computers (wired/wireless) under Windows and Linux, and (c) I
bypassed the router and plugged the modem directly into the computer -
works fine. I've already downloaded 3 650meg Hurd ISOs in 3 hours. Blows
my mind, I'm from dial-up.
So, my question is, can anyone suggest a good wireless router? Is Netgear
good? I thought LinkSys was a good company, but I dunno. Has anyone heard
of/had this problem and know a fix? I'll be researching that soon, but I
thought I would go ahead and get a question for y'all out first before my
wife and I leave for the night. Sorry for asking before full research, but
I'm in a hurry and I want to know! ;)
Thanks for any help and patience,
trey
