Which piece will give me network name services

I have an application that needs to find computers on my LAN by name,
instead of IP. Dont talk me out of it.

Right now, my DHCP server is a Linksys Switch, and not my Linux box. Is
this what NFS or NIS is for?

Keep in mind that after I configure it, I'll need a to execute a lookup by
client name that will yield its IP.
