Hi,

I'm currently running SuSE 7.3 (Professional), and am hoping to upgrade to
SuSE 8.2 (Professional) over the next few days, but have a few questions
first (that I couldn't really find answers to on Google):

I will be backing-up, wiping then re-installing all the system software and
data, including my home directory.

1. How do I transfer my Mail folders and email messages from KMail 1.3.1
(in KDE 2.2.1) to the KMail version in SuSE 8.2 (in KDE 3.1.1)? There is a
Mail directory in /home/adam (my username) that seems to contain all the
data (a lot of index and index.sorted files) - do I just back this up and
restore? Are there any other settings within the .kde directory (also in my
home directory) that I need to backup? Does the new version of KMail in KDE
3.1 use the same internal storage format? Is there a small program than can
do all this for me? Sorry for all the questions! (It's just that I did this
ages ago for an earlier version of KDE, and ended up with duplicates of all
my email messages after restoring the data!).

2. Same as above, but for my KNode settings....

3. As above for Konqueror bookmarks and cookies (KDE 2.2.1 to KDE 3.1.1:
are the bookmarks stored the same way for both versions of KDE?).

Sorry for all the questions - I just want to backup, reformat/wipe the
disks and re-install, and restore my data perfectly, and realize that there
may be complications in doing this between substantially different versions
of KDE (2.2.1 to 3.1.1)!

Also, I currently use VMWare extensively, as I am a VB & SQL Server
developer (I know, I know... !!!) by profession, so this is a critical app
for me: is anyone aware of any particular issues with using VMWare 3.2
under SuSE 8.2 professional? I can always upgrade to VMWare 4.x as a last
resort, but would prefer not to have to if possible!

Thanks in advance for any help / insight with these issues.

Kind regards,

Adam.
