Hi:
Yesterday I installed the new KDE 3.1.3 SuSE rpm's which were released
(via the KDE website) this week. My system is a Toshiba Tecra 9000 w/1
gHz CPU and 1 gig ram. I built a fresh install of SuSE 8.2 on a new HD
in it about 3 weeks ago. This install of KDE is all I've changed
lately.
I've noticed several things since yesterday. First, the system is
significantly more sluggish at times for activities which involve the
screen. For instance, while Konqueror is rendering a page, my CPU
utilization goes thru the roof and moving windows or my mouse becomes
extremely jerky. Second, my notebook fan (which generally doesn't run
all that often) is running most of the time. Third, I had to pretty
much give up on kpager entirely. For some reason it periodically kills
my system.
Has anyone else seen this kind of degradation with 3.1.3? Is there
something I can tune to help with this. Just the act of typing this
email is maxing out my CPU.
Thanks
John
