The only real problem I continue to have with SuSE after months of Linux use
is that SuSE does not play well with my Viewsonic A70f monitor. To get SuSE
and YaST2/SaX2 to recognize the monitor I have to create a Viewsonic floppy
with the correct drivers on it and keep it handy. Why? Because SuSE keeps
loosing the Viewsonic's model and resolution information and refusing to
start X Windows. Also, every so often when I do an "Online Update" and
restart my system I get a "video out of bounds" (resolution) error and have
to revert to text mode. Then I have to use YaST2 (text mode) to reset the
monitor and its resolution, etc. Finally I have to restart X Windows system.
With the latest "Online Update" just done, my system could not restart in
anything but text mode, so I had to do all the above foolishness. But, now,
I can't change the default resolution in YaST2 without X Windows crashing
and giving me the "video out of bounds" resolution error. All I want to do
is go to 800X600 mode rather than use the higher default. Any work-arounds
or solutions to this aggravating problem? Any suggestions? Thanks!
