Hello,
The recent kernel update "SuSE Security Announcement: kernel
(SuSE-SA:2003:034)" causes a system freeze when sending or receiving
faxes with a Fritz!PCI v2.0 ISDN card.
I've upgraded the kernel of a Suse 8.0 system according to the
installation instructions, including the source.
Then, I've reinstalled fcpci-suse8.0-03.09.10.tar.gz by
cd fritz
./install -r # remove old installation
./install -c # -c to compile a new driver
This procedure overwrites some drivers in
/lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB/kernel/drivers/isdn/avmb1/, so I've
reinstalled the new kernel again.
Booting the new kernel works, all modules (capi.o, capifs.o, fcpci.o
etc.) are loaded.
When sending a fax (or receiving, I can not test, because I can only
send myself a fax), the system freezes (roll lock and caps lock blink
in X Windows, I think this is the sign for a kernel panic?).
The kernel lock is reproducible on two systems with different
hardware. The other system even has a Fritz!PCI v1.0 ISDN card.
I had to go back to the old kernel.
Has anyone experienced the same problem?
If yes, have you solved it and how?
Any comments are welcome.
Thank you,
Moritz
