Thank you for the reply, but I had a look at the logs you mentioned, and it
was quite difficult to know what to post here as I had pages and pages of
errors of some discription. But what did catch my eye was a lot of references
to "sc-si" in that in the install log there was a reference to the
installation of an "sc-si emulator for ide-atapi devices",and the scattered
through start up log a lot of entries as shown below
Aug 28 08:05:40 linux kernel: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0 at scsi0, channel 0,
id 0, lun 0
and another thing that crops up by the hundred in the logs is:
Aug 27 19:36:39 linux kernel: 02:00: rw=0, want=16, limit=4
Aug 27 19:36:39 linux kernel: Directory sread (sector 0x1f) failed
Aug 27 19:36:39 linux kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device
As you see they are not in any chronological order, and may well have nothing
to do with my trying to install other software, but the references to "scsi
cd-rom" caught my eye,as I don't have any scsi devices in my machine.
Just as a point of interest, and it maybe no help at all, after I have tried
and fialed to install software,I will use "Knews" as an example it's name
appears in the start programmes list but there is no little icon next to
it,and if I click on it,Yast opens and goes through the try to install it
procedure, and fails, again keeps waiting for the cd-rom to be inserted into
the drive.
Hope that makes sense to someone,as at the moment it may as well be ancient
Sanskrit as far as I am concerned :-)
Bye the way is there a way to clear the logs just before I do an install,as
the log that show cover a whole day,and I am unable to extract the logs for
just one procedure.
