8.2 install freezes

i have a 120 gb hd
nforce integrated graphics
512mb pc3200 ddr
dvd/cd-rw combo
compaq 1725 monitor
and athlon xp 2700+
why is this damn thing freezing?
if i try the regular installation, it freezes at the point where it scans
for hardware...
when i try to use safe settings install, it freezes whn evaluating
selected packages for install...
this is really annoying me.
oh yeah, it's the 2 disc dvd installation
