Digikam problems

does anyone know how to get digikam to work ?? everytime try to access
photos on my kodak cx4230 it crashes.
linux seems to recognise my cam and it puts an icon on my desktop however it
just wont get the photos ie. i cant copy them to a directory, and digikam
seems to have a coniption fit everytime i try to use it.
some advice would be greatly appreciated
