Access with ssh sometimes sleeps - why?

When I access using SSH (v2 I believe) it sleeps for about five or ten
seconds every minute - As I'm typing my commands, it stalls... if I carry on
typing eventually my input catches up so there's some buffer somewhere
(perhaps in my windoze ssh client) that passes on my keyboard input.

Anybody got any ideas if this is a config that I can change/fix as it annoys
the hell out of me.

Cheers
Randell D.
