.... for "problematic" systems, i simply use 'xf86config' to
configure xfree. jot down the horiz/vert frequency ranges,
video card, and so on. execute 'xf86config' and supply the
valid values and create the XF86Config[-4] file. ensure that
you dont have ANOTHER XF86Config file laying around - check
the XF86Config man page to check the paths searched.
