Just my 2 cents. I have FAH3console-linuxB.exe. It's a program (executable)
that comes with my Folding At Home set-up from the download site at
stanford.edu. I start it by going ./FAH3console-linuxB.exe, as root from the
console. But it is part of a whole folder of folding at home stuff, not
standalone and not in my home directory. Anyway, this is not a text file or
something and as I said, to run it I go ./program name. You can add various
switches afterwards.
Haven't heard of your other file. In KDE you can right-click on .gz files
and choose the "extract here" option which has always worked for me so long
as I have user rights on the file.
:)
