ugly fonts in konqueror, ttf-arphic truetype fonts

Hello,

For CJK Latex to work with Chinese, I needed to install the
ttf-arphic-* RPMs that contain Chinese fonts (the packages cjk-latex-*
and ttf-arphic-* are not on the DVD of the German version of Suse 8.1
but can be downloaded from ftp://ftp.suse.com). The Fonts get
installed in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/.

After having installed these (truetype) fonts and executing
SuSEconfig, some fonts on webpages in Konqueror look ugly (i.e. very
thin and with too much space between the characters) and the German
Umlauts are missing (on some pages, e.g. http://www.google.de, these
may use Microsoft fonts).

I've already noticed that after installing a greek truetype font, the
German Umlauts are sometimes missing, too.

Deinstalling the ttf-arphic-* fonts and executing SuSEconfig restores
the good fonts in Konqueror.

Mozilla is not influenced, as far as I've seen.

How can you influence font substitution (in KDE/Qt?) that may take
place here?

How can Konqueror's font substitution be configured (font settings in
Settings->Configure Konqueror->Konqueror Browser->Appearance) don't
have any influence on the pages with ugly fonts?

The last lines of my
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XftConfig
are
# fallback fonts for cjk
match edit family =+ "mono";
match edit family =+ "Kochi Gothic";
match edit family =+ "AR PL SungtiL GB"; # these seem to be the
                                            # installed Chinese fonts
match edit family =+ "AR PL Mingti2L Big5";
match edit family =+ "Baekmuk Gulim";

Can these settings have any influence? If yes, how do I have to change
XftConfig?

In short, how can I get rid of ugly fonts in Konqueror after having
installed certain additional truetype fonts?

Thank you,

Moritz
