How are you updating the Nvidia drivers, Are you downloading them from
Nvidia's site. The new nvidia installer does not play nicely with yast and
can cause problems.
The "proper" way with SuSE is to install the nvidia drivers using yast
update (or install the SuSE nvidia rpm's manually). You can do the manual
package selection from yast update and delselect the nvidia updates, but if
you don't do this each time yast is run it will think that you are still
running with the placeholder drivers and try to update them.
This will conflict with the already manually installed drviers as Yast is
only aware of rpm packages installed on the system, not on ones installed
from source or via some custom installation tool (like the nivida drivers)
As to the no IP thing, can you be more specific. What sort of connection do
you have, does your machine vanish from a home network after you run Yast.
Do you run the SuSE firewall and if so have you checked /var/log/messages
to see if the firewall is dropping packets.
