Diable the frame buffer for Grub/LILO and the 1st virtual console.

You'll need to run with the 4GB kernel instead of the 64GB one that
SuSE likes to install be default. You may have to "prep" your kernel
sources so you can compile against the 4GB source version for the VMware
modules. You CANNOT use the ones supplied by SuSE.

Hmmm... not sure what to suggest there. My 1G machine with an Nvidia
at least passed the memtest test.
Do you have a local LUG that can help troubleshoot directly? Might take
some local action to determine the actual problem.
