DMA must be enabled by setting the appropriate driver for your chipset. I
don't know about the other things, but with sound I couldn't get it to work
with just the kernel. I downloaded the alsa sources and compiled them and then
I had no problem with sound, after that.

If it worked for your old kernel you can start a make menuconfig or make
xconfig for both and comapre the settings. I did it this way and everything
workes now fine.
