i won't go into details, but here's my 0.02 Euro:

Stick with 8.2. There's not (much) which is really annoying about 9.0 (a few
minor annoyances and installation omissions), but in general i was
marginally happier with 8.1 and 8.2.

That said, upgrade fever is always too tempting. :/

If you're an avid Yast user, suse 9.0 has a much improved yast - the console
version is easier to navigate (IMO) and the X version has lots of new
entries.

Also, if you're an Office user, it appears that OpenOffice has improved
considerably since it's days as StarOffice. (i haven't used it much,
though, so i can't give specifics.)

If you're a developer, the error-highlighting features included in gcc 3.3.1
(suse 9) are really helpful...

Well, okay, maybe the upgrade to 9 isn't such a bad idea after all. The only
things which i consider "broken" since my upgrade from 8.2 to 9.0 are
relatively minor (terminal handling in konsole, e.g., i cannot run 'mc'
from Solaris boxes using konsole anymore, but can from xterm).
