Chris,
as I would understand, you didn't manage to install any OS on this
particular system yet, correct?
If that's the case, I would bet you that you're right when saying there is a
sort of device conflict - something in your hardware is either setup wrong,
but even more likely is malfunctioning. In your second message (after this
post) you saying that it will actually boot the Linux HDD installation from
"other" system, but will get kernel panic as well, different message. Think
thats understandable, because the Linux installation was done on different
hardware , but maybe it's just a different way the same problem shows up.
I recall having these kind of issues yet in another case - when I was
installing PC with AthlonXP on Elitegroup K7S5A (V3.X) motherboard, which
used to be very picky overall, and had high rate of failures (bought it at
Fry's longer time ago). I finally returned the board with what I diagnosed
as faulty IDE controller (spent 3 days on fiddling/testing/swapping all
parts)...Unless you'll figure that out soon, I'd suggest to try different
motherboard (same model, just a different piece) if you have such a
chance..
Good Luck with that once again..
