Actually with Nvidia cards you just re-compile the kernel modules.
I know you're using a Matrox but I thought I'd post instructions for Nvidia
users who may be having trouble with 2.6.
First, for the 4496 drivers, assuming you'd downloaded the driver from Nvidia's
website, you type "sh ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run --extract-only".
This extracts the source code to compile the driver with.
Then you go to http://www.minion.de/nvidia.html. Download the patch, patch the
Nvidia source per the instructions on the web page, and the modified installer,
and you should be good to go.
I know this works with RedHat using kernel source from www.kernel.org, as I've
done it a few times now. I haven't tried it with a Suse kernel yet (hopefully
I'll have time by this coming weekend).
