suse freezes on hda8

I have hda1=vfat (mountpoint windoze_c), hda5=linux swap, hda6=linux ext2
(debian -mountpoint /), hda7=vfat (mountpoint windoze_d), hda8=linux ext2
(suse - mountpoint /), hda9=linux sxt2 (suse - mountpoint /home),
hda10=linux swap.
A couple of weeks ago my suse 8.0 (hda8) started to freeze right during
various applications for no particular reason, so I had to cold-start.
After a while I even had to perform fsck in read-only su mode while booting.
At that point I installed the 9.0, formatting hda8 but keeping ext2 as fs.
The 9.0 worked well initially but then started also to crash in ever
shorter uptime periods, each time with a manual fsck needed in read-only
mood as su.
The /var/log/boot.msg didn't give me any hint (copy beneath).
Now I'm working in my debian partition and when I mount the suse-system on
hda8 trying to work on data stored there, sometimes applications crash
(KView), sometimes they work fine (kedit). However I can kill the process
once it crashes. Same is true for hda9.
I am quite without orientation what the problem might be and how I could
possibly fix it, I even don't know where to start. Can it be a physical
problem? In fact the debian and the windoze partitions do work well, while
the problem occurred also with the previous suse 8.0 system on the same
partition. Would an installation of suse 9.0 with a different filesystem
bring an improvement? And which one should I use - the partition is 4.8 GB.
I think I can rule out particular applications being responsible for the
crashes, because there was no obvious relation.
Any help appreciated,
Jost
