Newbie question about kernel source

I bought Suse 9.0 Personal last week and found
that Suse Linux has changed immensely since the
last time I experimented with it many years ago.
Installation on my Windows computer was smooth
except for the failure to recognize my Radeon type
graphics card (Hercules 3d Prophet 9800). Sax2 did
not list Radeon 9800 but I found a driver on Suse's
site. The installation instructions told me to first
install "kernel source package" with Yast in order
to compile the needed modules.

But how? Searching on "kernel" I located a package
called k_deflt. But when I chose it I found that it was
not possible to just install the source. Source
installation apparently means that the existing
kernel also is replaced. Consequently a warning
message appears: don't do this unless you know what
you are doing!

Maybe this is the right kernel for my Intel 4 processor.
Or is it? The quality of the printed User Guide has
deteriorated over the years. Neiher "kernel" nor "source"
can now be found in the index.
