Hi,

i've just installed xcdroast and when i start it as root (as is required
for first use) i get the message:

Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: No protocol specified
(xcdroast:5108): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

Can anyone clarify this a bit?

I really like linux, but it's this kind of message that scares me of, (not
that i'm tempted to switch to another OS), because I haven't the faintest idea
even how to start solving the problem. Or worse, were to find the
information on this level. I'm not afraid of consoles and cryptical
syntax, I actually like it, but what on earth is Xlib and why wants it to
connect to ":0.0" and why is there some server that seems to have some
authority about these connections??? No, kidding, the serious question is:
'what does it mean, how do I solve it, or what is a good source of
information for this level of problems.' I don't like just asking around
for information, I'd rather do some research myself first, but I'm stuck
at this point.

thanks in advance for any info,

bye, olaf
