Commercial-Style Web Accounts

I teach at a community college and am planning for a PHP/MySQL class for the
fall of 2004. I have access to a server (currently running Win 2K) and will
be converting it to Suse 9.0 in the spring. I will set up a LAMP
(Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP) system and then use it to teach my fall class
(among other things).

Ideally, I'd like to create user accounts on that server for my students
similar to the commercial account I pay for. I'd like for the students to
experience the same look-and-feel that I get with my account; including a
control panel, FTP access to their accounts, MySQL controls, etc. When we
finish the semester, I would like to think the students could pay for a
commerical Web space and be comfortable with the interface.

Does anyone know of a good book or Web site that would teach me how to set
up such a system? I've Googled for what I thought would be key words (like
Apache, Control Panel, Commercial and such), but did not come up with much
help.

I've also noticed that many commerical Web sellers feature a similar control
panel so I believe that there is a package out there that would set up all
of those icons and links. Again, though, I've been unable to find it.

I appreciate any help you can offer in this matter.
