Hello everybody,
a customer has just asked me to get him a server for storage and backup. The
box will be equipped with 3x250 Gb IDE hard disks, that I'd like to
configure with software RAID 5 under SuSE 8.2 Pro. I understand it is not
possible to include the /boot partition in the RAID array, and neither it is
possible to store it on a floppy because the size of the kernel exceeds 1.44
MB.
I could find an old, small HD for this purpore, but I would like to try a
boot CD solution instead. I found some hints at:
http://portal.suse.de/sdb/en/2002/05/fhassel_bootcd.html
My questions are:
1) Has anybody succesfully implemente such solution, maybe along with
software RAID?
2) What should I do if I need to update the kernel? I understand from the
above article that the CD is made from the machine itself, so should I just
download the new kernel and re-burn the CD, or is there anything else I
should know?
TIA
Stefano
